Understanding Dental X-Rays

Dental x-rays are crucial diagnostic tools that reveal the internal structures of your teeth, roots, and surrounding bones. These images help us identify a wide range of issues, from small cavities to bone loss and developmental abnormalities, that aren’t visible during a standard visual exam. By using digital x-ray technology, we obtain high-quality images instantly while minimizing your radiation exposure.

Benefits of Dental X-Rays

Our Dental X-Ray Process

Comprehensive Oral Assessment

We begin with a thorough examination of your mouth, discussing your dental history and any concerns you may have. Based on this evaluation and the time since your last x-rays, we’ll determine if new images are necessary for your care.

Precise Image Capture

Using state-of-the-art digital x-ray equipment, we’ll take clear, detailed images of your teeth and surrounding structures. Our experienced technicians ensure your comfort throughout this quick and painless process.

Expert Image Analysis

Our skilled dentists carefully examine your x-rays, looking for any signs of decay, damage, or abnormalities. We’ll explain our findings in clear, easy-to-understand terms, ensuring you’re fully informed about your oral health status.

Tailored Care Recommendations

Based on the x-ray results and our clinical examination, we’ll develop a personalized treatment plan addressing any issues we’ve identified. We’ll discuss all options with you, answering your questions and addressing any concerns.

Ongoing Oral Health Monitoring

We’ll schedule regular check-ups to track changes in your oral health over time. This proactive approach, combined with periodic x-rays as needed, helps us catch and address potential problems early, keeping your smile healthy and bright.

FAQs About Dental X-Rays

Would you see tooth cavity in x-ray?

Absolutely! Dental x-rays excel at revealing cavities, even in hard-to-see areas. They can detect decay between teeth, under fillings, and in early stages before it’s visible to the naked eye. This early detection allows us to treat issues with less invasive methods, saving you time and discomfort.

Are dental x-rays safe?

At Newport Dental, we prioritize your safety. Our digital x-rays emit significantly less radiation than traditional film x-rays, making them very safe. We also use lead aprons and thyroid collars as additional precautions. The invaluable information gained from these x-rays far outweighs the minimal exposure.

How many dental x-rays are safe in a month?

There’s no set monthly limit for dental x-rays, as the radiation dose is extremely low. At Newport Dental, we follow the ALARA principle (As Low As Reasonably Achievable), taking x-rays only when necessary for diagnosis or treatment planning. For most patients, we recommend x-rays once or twice a year, unless we’re monitoring a specific issue.

Can you get dental x-rays while pregnant?

While dental x-rays are generally safe, we typically recommend postponing routine x-rays during pregnancy. However, if you have a dental emergency or condition requiring immediate treatment, the benefits often outweigh the minimal risks. In such cases, we take extra precautions, including double lead aprons, to protect you and your baby.

How much radiation in dental x-rays?

The radiation in our digital dental x-rays is remarkably low. To put it in perspective, a full set of dental x-rays at Newport Dental exposes you to about the same amount of radiation as a short airplane flight or a day of natural background radiation. We use the latest low-dose technology to ensure your safety while still obtaining the high-quality images needed for your care.

Testimonials

I had an excellent experience as a new patient at this clinic. From the moment I arrived, the staff was incredibly welcoming and made the entire process smooth and stress-free. I appreciated that there was minimal waiting time, and once I was in the exam room, the assistant was both caring and gentle, particularly during the x-rays. The doctor took the time to listen attentively to all of my concerns and was very understanding throughout the appointment. I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone seeking quality care.

I got all 4 my wisdom teeth removal here and some were growing in sideways and it’s been a few days and I feel so much better already and had a good recovery.

Also, I had to transfer my prescriptions to a different pharmacy after the dentist office was closed and the emergency line was so helpful and they got the prescription transferred quickly and I was able to pick up my medicine same day.

Thank you so much to Dr. Sarah Park, the dental assistant and front desk Sydney🌸💖

I found Newport Dental through my insurance and scheduled a teeth cleaning. I hadn’t got my teeth cleaned in years and was overdue, I also have very sensitive teeth and gums so I don’t love going to the dentist, but Newport was great! The people who worked on my teeth were nice, friendly, and very careful and gentle on my teeth, which I greatly appreciated! I will be going back!

Every doctor I have had at Newport has been well equipped to take care and inform me of my options for each visit. The administrative staff are always welcoming and ready to help with any adjustments I need to scheduling. The best!

I went in for an annual cleaning and it was very quick and easy! Was able to do my paperwork online so I came in right on time without any extra hassle. The dentists were very nice and accommodating, making sure I was comfortable and my questions were addressed. Dr. Park was the official dentist that cleaned my teeth and she was great! She knew what she was doing and she did it with ease and speed. I think the whole appointment took no more than 30 min. Would recommend for an annual cleaning!

Wowed by the staff! Every SINGLE time!

Dental appointments are tough as is, and the staff understands that. Going in for my wisdom teeth removal for the first time, the team guided me through the process, patiently answered all my questions, and made me feel at home.

First return to the office checking in, the front desk already remembers my name. That put a smile on my face (or as much as I could smile during my wisdom teeth recovery).

And of course I overslept an early cavities appointment during my busy week, where I received follow-up phone calls to reschedule. When I actually went in, they offered to clean my Spark aligners during the procedure--simply above and beyond on both points.

Thank you Newport Dental team for your exceptional hospitality and care! Saying goodbye to this nice find as I move to a different state, hoping I can find there a provider that remotely parallels Newport Dental's service.

My daughter had a great experience at this office. She has a major fear of the dentist and they made her feel loved, welcomed, and not judged. Highly recommend!”

Since I was 15 I've always hated going to the dentist, I had a seizure due to the propofol after getting my wisdom teeth pulled, however they are very nice and set me at ease. I come here for my yearly cleaning, had a tooth pulled and I'm geting an implant done as well.

First visit and they were all very kind and kept checking in which I personally liked since it's been so long I was kind of nervous. Lots of work to be done but they all seem to be very kind and and care for their patients.
